RADON
Is a naturally occurring odorless gas in the earth's
surface. This gas normally escapes and dissipates in the atmosphere through
cracks or holes in the crust of the earth. Most commonly we come into contact
with radon gas in enclosed areas such as basements. Radon gas sometimes will
escape through cracks in the concrete floor, open dirt floored crawl spaces or
into an open sump. In some unventilated spaces it will accumulate to levels that
are deemed to be unhealthy.
Up to 30 percent of all homes in the United States could have radon concentrations above the action level of 4 picocuries per liter. The EPA and Surgeon General recommended that virtually all homes be tested.
We test for radon concentration with an EPA approved method, using E PERM monitors. We are equipped to read the monitors, and very accurate results can be obtained in 48 hours.
This service carries a nominal fee of $95 in addition to the home inspection fee, or $125 without a home inspection.
